Mataiya Barber enters her first season as assistant coach at Fort Scott Community College. Originally from Dallas, Texas, she was a four-year varsity volleyball player at Lewisville High School, where she earned numerous career honors and developed a strong foundation for her collegiate and coaching career.
She began her collegiate career at Edward Waters University, earning 2x Setter of the Year honors and recognition on the SIAC All-Tournament Team. She later continued her career at Missouri Southern State University, where she recorded more than 2,000 career assists and became known for her leadership, court vision, and consistency as a setter. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in General Studies and a minor in Biology.
As a first-year coach, she brings energy, competitiveness, and a player-focused mindset to the program. Her coaching philosophy emphasizes discipline, teamwork, communication, and the overall development of student-athletes both on and off the court. She is excited to begin her coaching journey and looks forward to helping build a strong culture while contributing to the success of the program.
