Volleyball Goes 4-0 Opening Weekend

The Lady Greyhounds went 4-0 in the opening weekend at home in the FS Tourney.

On Friday, the Greyhounds opened up with Wentworth Military Academy.  The Lady Hounds won in straight sets, 25-21, 25-18, 33-31. Freshman Brette Moore led the team in kills with 10, while Mickey Trimble and Morgan McNeley had 14 and 13 assists respectively. On the defensive end, Emily Bruce tallied 25 digs.

The second match for the Hounds proved to be an exciting one.  They took on Brookhaven College from the Dallas, TX area.  The Hounds were able to hang on and win the match in five sets with the scores of 25-22, 14-25, 20-25, 25-14, 15-11.  Brette Moore and Brandi Huesman led the team in kills with 13 and 11.  Mickey Trimble recorded 28 assists, while Emily Bruce had 34 digs.  Sheri Middleton recorded an impressive 10 blocks in the match.  Julia Stringer, returning KJCCC Freshman of the Year made a short appearance in the match and was able to record 8 kills, 2 blocks and 4 digs.  The win versus Brookhaven marked Coach Lindsay Hill's 100th victory at FSCC.

Saturday morning the Hounds faced East Central, winning in three straight sets, 25-15, 25-17, 25-17.  Sheri Middleton and Brette Moore led with eight kills a piece, McNeley had 32 assists and Brandi Huesman led the team with 15 digs.  As a team, the Greyhounds recorded ten aces on the match.

The fourth and final match on Saturday, the Greyhounds matched up against Labette County.  Again the Greyhounds were able to put them away in three straight sets with the scores of 32-30, 25-7, 25-16.  The Hounds were led by freshman right side Brette Moore with ten kills, freshman setter Morgan McNeley had 29 assists and sophomore Fallyn Ozbun at 11 digs.

"It is great to start the season 4-0.  We made some huge strides this weekend and grew as a team.  We still need to get more disciplined but we are a young team on the floor right now.  Hopefully we can get everyone healthy before Wednesday," said Head Coach Lindsay Hill.

The Greyhounds open up conference play on Wednesday as they travel to Arkansas City, KS to take on the #3 ranked Cowley Tigers.  Game time is set for 6:30pm.
