Greyhounds Handle Iowa Central 51-7 to Even Record at 3-3

On an unusual Sunday afternoon football game for the Fort Scott Greyhounds the outcome was just what head Coach Curtis Horton wanted to see; a 51-7 blow-out victory over Iowa Central to build up some momentum for the remainder of the season. "We have some good things going and if we play to our potential the rest of the way good things will happen" Horton said after the game on Sunday.

Good things did happen on Sunday in all areas of the game for the Greyhounds who improved to 3-3 on the season and find themselves in a "dog-fight" in the middle of the Kansas Jayhawk Juco Conference standings; the 'Hounds are tied with four other conference teams that each have two losses within the conference.

Fort Scott's quarterback Nathan Rourke continued his hot play connecting on two first quarter touchdowns and ran for a score of his own right before halftime to lead the Greyhounds offensive unit that put up 381 yards of offense on 86 plays.

Rourke completed 18 of 23 passes for 236 yards for the day and was only sacked twice, a big improvement from last week when he went down 11 times against Coffeyville.

Wide receiver Chris Claybrooks had another big game for the Greyhounds collecting 7 passes for 82 yards and two scores.

Fort Scott High School alumni Brody Southwell continues to improve on his place kicking game as he connected on three of four kicks on Sunday; Southwell made kicks from 32, 42, and 28 yards. He came up short on a 46-yarder late in the game.

With the score 27-7 at the start of the second half, Linebacker Lane Moran came up with a big fumble  recovering on the second half kick-off and raced 24 yards for a touchdown to put the visitors up 34-7 and pretty much took the air out of the homecoming crowd that packed Dodger Stadium in Fort Dodge, IA. Moran also added 6 tackles from his outside linebacker position.

The "Dark Side" defense of Fort Scott got into the scoring spree on the following drive when defensive back Quinton Jordan stepped in front of a Triton pass and ran untouched 20 yards to the end zone for another Fort Scott score.

Running back Harry Trotter scored from 1 yard out late in the third quarter to make the score 48-7.

The "Dark-Side" defensive unit pretty much kept the Triton's in control all day keeping them to minus yardage on the ground and only giving up 174 yards for the game.

Freshman Dominique Cizauskas continued his great play from his inside linebacker position leading the 'Hounds with 10 tackles and also forced the fumble that led to the Moran touchdown.

Linebacker Logan Edwards contributed 9 tackles while defensive lineman Reggie Howard had 2 ½ sacks and 5 takedowns.

Fort Scott will face four conference rivals over the span of five weeks starting next week when the 5-2 Conquistadors of Dodge City invade the Fort. Dodge City is coming off of an upset loss to the hands of Iowa Western and is ranked in the NJCAA top 15 in the latest poll.

Game time for Saturday "key" match-up against Dodge City Community College is set for 7:00pm at Frary Field.
