Fort Scott Community College's volleyball team swept last-place Labette in three sets here Wednesday night, 25-18, 26-24, 25-23.

The Greyhounds, who were moved down five spots to No. 18 in this week's NJCAA Division II poll, improved to 2-2 in Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division play and 16-5 overall.

Labette, 0-5, 2-16, lost its 10th consecutive match.

Brette Moore led the Greyhounds with 18 kills in the match. Sheri Middleton didn't attack often but had 7 kills in 16 tries for a kill percentage of .438. Brandi Huesman and Julia Stringer each had 8 kills.

Morgan McNeley registered 23 assists for Fort Scott while Mickey Trimble had 17. Emily Bruce served 2 aces and also led FSCC with 15 digs. Huesman had 12 digs herself.

Moore and Middleton had 4 blocks each and Brianna Bogan had 3.

Labette was able to stay in the match, especially in the two close sets, by having a better team kill percentage (.293 to .236) and picking up more digs. Both teams were credited with 42 kills but the Cardinals needed fewer attacks to get those kills.

The Greyhounds host two matches next week with Neosho County visiting Monday.
