The 2025-2026 season will mark the third for Dawson Cantwell as an assistant coach for the Greyhounds. He serves as the pitching coach and assists with recruiting and academics.
The pitching staff has seen improvements in many categories since the start of Cantwell’s time here. Some improvements since the 2023 season:
- ERA: from 6.88 to 6.07
- Walks: from 290 to 251
- Runs Allowed/game: 6.16 to 5.26
Coach Cantwell played at Fort Scott from 2017 to 2020 as a left-handed pitcher, and is in the record book with the fourth best career ERA in the program’s history (2.49). After graduating from Fort Scott, Cantwell accepted a scholarship to pitch at West Texas A&M, where he attended for three years. He is currently working on a master’s degree in Sport and Exercise Science with an emphasis on Sport Management through West Texas A&M.
Coach Cantwell is a native of Shawnee, KS and went to Mill Valley High School.
