The Lady Greyhounds found themselves on top this past week, as they won 3 of 4 against Oklahoma Wesleyan University and Haskell University. FSCC pushes their season record to 11-10, making it their best 21 game start under Head Coach Kristin Janes.
Thursday night, the Lady Greyhounds played their double header under the lights. In game one, FSCC jumped on Oklahoma Wesleyan University early, leading to its 6-4 win. The Lady Hounds broke out the offense in the first on an RBI triple by Kristen Tyler and a two-run home run by Taylor Brecheisen. One run was pushed across in each of the second, third and fifth innings.
Lady Greyhound's offense was led by Sophomores KC Beardsley and Tyler, who teamed up for six hits and four RBIs.
Aubrey Smith got the win for Lady Greyhounds. She allowed one earned run over seven innings, striking out four and walking none.
In the only loss of the week, FSCC fell 11-8 to OKWU in game two. Once again, the Lady Hounds offense was a highlight. FSCC collected 9 hits and 8 runs in their seven innings of work. Cheyenne Brewer and Allison Davis led the team with two hits and two RBI's each.
In Saturday mornings opening game vs. Haskell University, a nine-run explosion in the fourth inning led the Lady Hounds to a 13-5 victory in five innings.
Lady Greyhounds jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Lady Greyhounds' threat began with a single by McKenzie Hersh. A stolen base then moved Hersh from first to second. Taylor Brecheisen singled, bringing home Hersh.
FSCC scored in the fourth on a solo home run by Taylor Brecheisen, an RBI single by Cheyenne Brewer, a two-run single by Alex Perez, a two-run triple by McKenzie Hersh, an RBI single by Kristen Tyler, an RBI single by KC Beardsley, and an RBI single by Aubrey Smith.
All nine Lady Hounds starters collected at least one hit in the game, bringing the game total to 19 for FSCC. Taylor Brecheisen and Aubrey Smith lead the offensive attack for the Lady Hounds. Brecheisen was 3-4 with a home run, and Smith was perfect at the dish, going 3-3, with a home run.
McKenzie Hersh recorded her first college win on the mound for Lady Greyhounds. She pitched 1 2/3 shutout innings. She struck out two and surrendered no hits.
Game two's win was a full team effort, resulting in 17 Lady Hounds in the lineup. The 8-1 victory on Saturday at FSCC produced another offensive show, with seven runs in the first three innings. Kristen Tyler, KC Beardsley and Amber Sutton all were large contributors to the offensive success. Beardsley racked up three RBIs on two hits for Lady Greyhounds.
Amber Sutton racked up eight strikeouts in the Lady Greyhounds win. Sutton allowed no earned runs, two hits over five innings. Kia Boyd made her pitching debut for the Lady Hounds, closing the last two innings, striking out 2 and giving up no hits.
Next up for the Lady Hounds is KJCCC conference home opener vs. Labette County on Tuesday, at 2:00 & 4:00. Conference opponent Johnson County comes to FSCC on Thursday, at 1:00 & 3:00, and finishing up the six-game home stand on Saturday for the Lady Hounds is a double header vs. Mineral Area at 1:00 & 3:00.
