The Fort Scott Greyhounds out-hit Barton Baseball Cougars 12 to 11, but it wasn't enough in an 8-5 loss on Friday. Fort Scott fired up the offense in the first inning. Blake Wilson singled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs.
In the bottom of the second inning, Barton Baseball Cougars tied things up at two. Henry Hayman drove in one when Hayman singled.
Barton Baseball Cougars pulled away for good with one run in the third inning. In the third Dryden Howse doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run. Barton Baseball Cougars scored five runs in the fourth inning. The big inning for Barton Baseball came thanks to singles by Ricardo Sanchez, Ayden Blachowicz, and Jaden Wiley.
Owen Reynolds was credited with the victory for Barton. The lefthander went six innings, allowing three runs on ten hits, striking out five and walking one. Brett Allen and Hunter Jones entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Eric Tapia took the loss for Fort Scott. The bulldog went two and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on four hits.
Fort Scott tallied one home run on the day. Jaret Nelson hit a majestic homerun in the eighth inning. The Ball was hit approximately 450 feet.
Baseball has wrapped up their season with 8-5 loss to Barton County CC who was ranked 7th in the country. Baseball finished off an impressive season going 38-23 overall. The Hounds had big series wins over Iowa Lakes, Labette, Colby, Coffeyville, Allen, Highland and Neosho.
The Hounds led the country in Homeruns with 140 on the season and slugging percentage with .661. The Hounds were ranked 2nd in two other offensive categories, extra base hits with 278 and total bases with 1208. Brody Szako led the country in homeruns with 27 on the year. It was a great offensive year for the Hounds!
The Hounds look to go further next year in the tournament. The Hounds are going to miss the sophomore class and all the leadership they brough to the club. The Hounds are brining in a class of recruits that are ranked 5th best in junior college.
