The Fort Scott Greyhounds took the lead late and defeated Hutchinson 10-6 on Thursday. The game was tied at six with the Greyhounds batting in the bottom of the seventh when Evann Long singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.
The Hounds earned the victory despite allowing Hutchinson to score four runs in the first inning. Mustow, Wesslund, and Childress all drove in runs in the frame. Hutchinson got things started in the first inning when Mustow doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring two runs.
After Hutchinson scored one run in the top of the sixth, Fort Scott answered with one of their own. Hutchinson scored when Gunderson drew a walk, scoring one run. Fort Scott then answered when Long hit a solo homer.
Gavin Brummund earned the victory on the pitcher's mound for The Greyhounds. The bulldog surrendered zero runs on zero hits over one and two-thirds innings, striking out two. Wyatt Foley, Zach Nelson, and Easten Smith all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory. Ojeda started the game for Hutchinson. The bulldog lasted two and a third innings, allowing five hits and four runs while striking out three and walking one Eric Tapia started the game for Fort Scott Greyhounds Varsity. Fort Scott Greyhounds Varsity socked one home run on the day. Long went yard in the sixth inning. Fort Scott collected 17 hits on the day. Long, Carson Carpenter, Joe Ricchio, Joey Little, Jaret Nelson, and Ayden Slott all collected multiple hits for Fort Scott. Ricchio, Carpenter, and Long each collected three hits to lead the Hounds.
They Hounds will advance to Wichita for Region VI Championship Tournmanet where they will face the winner of Butler CC and Allen CC at 10 AM on the Campus of Wichita State University.
