The Greyhounds capped off the second week of their season by winning five of six games making their record, 7-2 for the season. Last Wednesday saw the baseball team take two games on the road at Ottawa University JV, 14-4 & 19-2. Freshmen, Ka'ai Tom and Lance Barkley both homered in game one and freshmen, Parker O'Dell collected 4 RBI in game two.
North Central Missouri Community College came to town for a four game series this past weekend. For the second straight weekend, the games were moved to Jaycee Ballpark in Pittsburg, KS due to wet field conditions. The Hounds jumped out early in game one with back-to-back homers from the first two batters for FSCC in Tom and Barkley. FSCC scored in each of the first four innings mounting an 8-0 lead. Freshman, Josh Griffith picked up his second win of the season throwing five innings of no-hit baseball until he was removed due to an early season pitch count and was replaced by freshman, Cash Pechin. North Central picked up two runs in the final two innings to bring the final score to 8-2.
Game two was a pitching duel that finished with the Greyhounds on top, winning 3-1. Freshman, Parker O'Dell hit his first collegiate homerun to put the Greyhounds up for good in the third inning. On the mound, freshman, Aaron Mason picked up his second win of the season allowing one run in 4 2/3 innings. North Central rallied to load the bases with two outs in the top of the 5th inning, but freshman reliever, John Lynch, came in and struck the batter out in 4 pitches to squander the threat. Sophomore, Nick Kevlin pitched the final two innings allowing only one hit and striking out four, picking up his second save of the season.
Game three saw numerous scouts arrive to see North Central's starting pitcher, Silas Bohanon, from Neosho, MO. The big right handed pitcher struggled against the Greyhounds allowing six stolen bases and five runs in the first three innings. Freshman, Zach Taylor collected 3 RBI for the Greyhounds while sophomore, Ryan Ahrens struck out eight in four innings. Freshman, John Lynch threw the final three innings without allowing a hit. The final score was 7-2 in favor of the Greyhounds.
Game four brought sloppy play as the Greyhounds committed four errors allowing all four batters to score. The only offensive production of the game came in the bottom of the 4th inning when freshman, Alex Copeland hit a three run homerun to tie the ball game. The game ended in extra innings with the score 4-3 in favor of North Central.
The Greyhounds will resume play this week with a single game against Crowder College on Tuesday at 2:00pm and a four game weekend series versus Muscatine Community College being played as a double header both Saturday and Sunday at 1:00pm. All games this week will be played in Fort Scott.
