Dave Wiemers (pronounced We-mers), a longtime collegiate head coach and coordinator at the NCAA Division II level, joined the Utah State football staff in July 2024 as a senior defensive analyst.

Wiemers brings 25 years of college coaching experience to Logan, including six seasons as a head coach, 14 seasons as a defensive coordinator, and five seasons as an offensive coordinator.

Before arriving at Utah State, Wiemers served as defensive coordinator at Webb City High School (MO) for two seasons. Prior to that, he was the offensive coordinator at Carthage High School (MO), where he helped guide the program to Central Ozark Conference Championships in 2021 and 2022, as well as a Class 5 District 6 Championship in 2022.

At the collegiate level, Wiemers most recently spent 12 seasons at Pittsburg State (KS) from 2008 to 2019. He served as offensive coordinator during his first two years and as defensive coordinator for the final 10, while also holding the title of assistant head coach from 2011 to 2019. He helped lead the Gorillas to the NCAA Division II National Championship in 2011.

Prior to his tenure at Pittsburg State, Wiemers was the offensive coordinator at Tarleton State for the 2007 season.

Wiemers was the head coach at Emporia State from 2001–06, compiling a 35–32 (.522) record. He led the Hornets to the MIAA Championship in 2003, a Mineral Water Bowl victory in 2002, and the program’s first-ever NCAA Playoff appearance in 2003 — earning MIAA Coach of the Year honors. He remains the fourth-winningest coach in Emporia State history. Prior to his head coaching role, he served as the Hornets’ offensive coordinator from 1999 to 2000.

He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Pittsburg State in 1992–93, followed by four seasons as defensive coordinator at Saginaw Valley State (MI) from 1994–98.

As a player, Wiemers was a quarterback at Dodge City Community College (1987–88) before transferring to Washburn University, where he played two seasons and earned his degree in secondary education and social studies in 1991.

Wiemers comes from a coaching family. His brother, Jon Wiemers, is the head football coach at Olathe West High School in the Kansas City area. His sister, Suzie Fritz, is the head volleyball coach for LOVB, a professional volleyball league based in Omaha, Nebraska.

Dave and his wife Susie have two sons: Brett, 24, and Brock, 16.
