Women's Basketball Goes 2-0 on the Weekend

The Fort Scott Women's Basketball team opened up their 2012-2013 season with two wins in the Gladbach Greyhound Classic. The first game was against Southwestern Iowa Community College. The Hounds didn't get off to a great start in the first half and went into halftime down by 3 points. During the second half, Malori Gales and Burgandie Lewis sparked the team as the Hounds pulled ahead and never looked back, winning this game with a score of 48-40. Freshman Malori Gales finished the game with a team high 19 points. Sophomore Burgandie Lewis had a double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds. "This was a total team effort, Malori and Burgandie did a great job getting us going in the second half, however, every player on the team got into the scoring column to help us pull through with a win." Coach Reihmann.

The second game was against Wentworth Military College. The Hounds ran into some trouble early on in the second half when Burgandie Lewis and Rachael Eldridge both fouled out. The five remaining players pulled together and fought off a great effort from Wentworth. Freshman D'Shawna Lee led the Hounds in scoring with 17 points followed by Cheianne Ivy with 14 points. Both Malori Gales and Rebecca Fisher also got into double figures scoring 11 points each. Malori lead the team with 9 rebounds and Cheianne Ivy dished out 6 assists. "This game really showed our toughness early on. The team was faced with adversity with only five players remaining for a good portion of the second half. We had players who didn't score as much the night before come out and really help the team. It was a great team effort again and I'm very proud of how the team responded when things weren't going our way during this game." Coach Reihmann. The final score of this game was 57-53.
