The Lady Hounds ended their week Thursday with a sweep of East Central College at home. The 3-1 and 7-1 wins gave FSCC their second weep of the week, bringing their overall record back above .500, 15-14.
Game one was a close pitching duel, led by Greyhound pitcher Aubrey Smith. Smith remained in control through all seven innings and nabbed the win in the circle. She allowed one run on six hits with no walks, striking out five.
Offensively FSCC was solid and saw many runners aboard the bases. The Lady Hounds scored the first run of the game in the first inning on an RBI single by Taylor Brecheisen. Their lead increased with two runs crossing in the third. Kristen Tyler started off the inning with a single, followed by a hit by pitch for Taylor Brecheisen. KC Beardsley grabbed the first RBI of the inning when she singled, plating Kristen Tyler. Smith drove in the second run by singling, plating Brecheisen. Leading the FSCC offense was KC Beardsley going 2 for 2, with a double, RBI and walk.
In game two, the Lady Hounds offense came to life. Three runs were earned in the bottom of the first inning. Alex Perez and McKenzie Hersh got the offense started with a walk and single. Perez scored on a groundout by Taylor Brecheisen, while Hersh scored on an RBI single by Kaylee Bart. Later in the inning KC Beardsley, who reached by walk, scored on an RBI double by Amber Sutton.
The single run in the fourth inning came on Kristen Tyler's RBI single, plating Alex Perez, who walked earlier in the inning. In the fifth, Kylie Wilson, pinch running for Beardsley, scored on an RBI single by Chelsea Snyder. The sixth inning brought two more runs across for the Lady Hounds. Perez scored on an RBI single by Taylor Brecheisen. Jenna Nevius, pinch running for Brecheisen, then scored on an RBI single by Kaylee Bart. Alex Perez and Kaylee Bart lead the offense for the Lady Hounds, both reaching base three times.
Sutton recorded the win for FSCC in the circle. She allowed one run over six innings. Kia Boyd threw one solid inning of relief, retiring all three batters in order.
The Lady Hounds continue their KJCCC schedule on Tuesday, March 29, at Kansas City Kansas, as well as a twin bill next weekend at home vs. Independence on Friday and Cowley County on Saturday.
