Lady Hounds Take 3 of 4

The Lady Greyhounds had a successful first weekend of March, taking 3 of 4 this past Friday and Saturday. FSCC went 2-0 at home vs. Cottey College on Friday, followed by a 1-1 record on the road against MCC-Maplewoods. 

In game one Friday, the Lady Greyhounds jumped on Cottey College early to capture the15-4 win. The game was decided quickly as Lady Greyhounds scored 12 runs in the first three innings. An RBI triple by Alex Perez and an RBI single by Allison Davis in the first inning put the Hounds on the board.

FSCC added five more runs in the bottom of the third. Kristen Tyler's double got things going, plating Cheyenne Brewer and Perez, followed by Kaylan Morgan's double, scoring Taylor Brecheisen and Tyler. The Lady Greyhounds tacked on another three runs in the fourth. Jenna Nevius singled, plating Kylee Cronin and Chelsea Snyder to start the inning. That was followed up by Kylie Wilson's single, scoring Nevius.

Aubrey Smith recorded the win for Lady Greyhounds. She allowed one run over four innings. She struck out three and walked none.

Game two proved to be another strong showing as FSCC took a 22-3 victory. The Hounds capitalized quickly as 14 runs came across during the first three innings.

An RBI single by Taylor Brecheisen, a two-run single by KC Beardsley, an RBI double by Kaitlyn Tenholder, and an RBI single by Alex Perez produced runs in the first inning. A two-run single by Amber Sutton, an RBI double by Kylee Cronin, and a two-run single by Perez in the second inning added more runs to the scoreboard.

Sutton got it done on the rubber and took the win. She allowed three runs over four innings and struck out three.

The Hounds continued their winning ways on Saturday beating MCC- Maplewoods 8-6 in seven innings.

The top of the first saw the Lady Greyhounds take an early lead, 3-0. McKenzie Hersh kicked things off for Lady Greyhounds with a single. A sacrifice by Alex Perez then moved Hersh from first to second and Allison Davis singled, plating Hersh. The scoreboard lit up again for the Lady Hounds when Kristen Tyler scored on an RBI single by Taylor Brecheisen and Davis scored on an RBI single by KC Beardsley.

In the second inning Davis again came up big for the Lady Hounds, sending a 3 run blast over the left field fence.

Maplewoods scored five runs of its own in the second and tied the game up in the sixth.  In the top of the seventh, Aubrey Smith took the game into her own hands and drove a 2 run homerun out to leftfield, plating Chelsea Snyder, pitch running for KC Beardsley. Smith's homerun ended up the winning hit for FSCC.

Smith also nabbed the win in the circle for the Lady Hounds. In her seven innings of work, she struck out four.

The only loss of the weekend came in game two vs. Maplewoods, 9-1. The lone run for FSCC came from Taylor Brecheisen in the second inning, homering to left field.

The Lady Hounds open up a five game home stand this week. FSCC welcomes in Mineral Area, Oklahoma Wesleyan's JV and Haskell University on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday respectively. The following week, the week of March 14, the Lady Hounds start conference play, opening with Labette Community College on Tuesday, March 15, and Johnson County, Thursday, March 17.
