The Lady Hounds Softball Team took on the beautiful Fort Worth, Texas weather and some top tier teams last weekend at the Fort Worth Cowtown Classic. FSCC competed against 4 teams from Texas, North Central Texas, Clarenden, Ranger and Vernon, as well as Seminole State from Oklahoma, during their two day trip.
FSCC compiled a 1-4 record over the five game stretch, coming out on top over Vernon College in Game one on Saturday, 12-0 in 6 innings. Kaylee Bart threw her second win of the season, shutting out the Chaparral offense with 7 K's and no runs.
Five runs in the first three innings allowed Lady Greyhounds to put the game away early. A sacrifice fly by Jenna Nevius, an RBI triple by Alex Perez, an RBI single by McKenzie Hersh, and an RBI single by Kaylee Bart in the second inning fueled the Lady Greyhounds' offense early. Aubrey Smith had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. She doubled in the second inning and tripled in the fifth inning. The Lady Greyhounds added six more runs in the top of the sixth.
Leading the 14 hit offensive display was Kristen Tyler going 3-4 with an RBI. Allison Davis and KC Beardsley added 2 hits and a walk each in there four plate appearances.
The Lady Hounds came up short in the remaining four games on their schedule. Over all the team boasted a .347 Batting Average for the weekend, as well as a .415 On Base Percentage. They collected 9 extra base hits, 7 stolen bases and 15 walks.
"I think we really grew as a team this weekend," said Head Coach Kristin Janes. "We didn't do as well as we wanted, but we improved and I think the experience made us a better team. We are excited to continue playing next weekend."
