Picking up his 142nd career win at the Greyhound helm, Cook passed Hall of Fame Coach Bob Eshelbrenner. Going into the 2020-21 season, Cook has 148 career wins.
"It has been an honor to be able to lead this program and build a program that the school, community, and administration can be proud of on and off the court, " Cook said. "This accomplishment would not have been possible without the support of them, the hard work of great assistants over the years and the players and their families for believing and trusting in the process, more importantly having the support of my family to do what I truly love."
Cook has been the Head Coach at FSCC for 12 years. In his tenure there have been 45 players that have moved on to play at four-year schools, 20 players ranked on the all-time scoring list, 19 on the all-time rebounding list, and 10 players on the all-time assist leaders. Former player Kevin House is the all-time assist leader. Currently, six of his players are overseas and five are playing semi-professional basketball. Also, the program posted the most single-season wins in the 2017-2018 season. Also in the 2017-18 season, the 5th program 20-win season was achieved.
Academically, the program has been ranked in the top five in GPA in the conference all but three years under Cook. The Greyhounds finished the year ranked first in the conference in team GPA most recently in 2018-2019 and ranked fifth in the nation in 2009-2010. The program has also placed one or more players on the All-Conference Academic team each year under Coach Cook.
The 2017-2018 season was another historic season for the Greyhounds both on and off the court. In the classroom, the Greyhounds finished the first semester with a 3.55 GPA, the highest-grade point average ever posted by the men's basketball team. Also that year, the team finished with the 4th highest GPA in the conference. The Greyhounds also had seven players earn All-Conference All-Academic and three players earn Exemplary Academic Achievement - the equivalent of Academic All American.
Also, in Cook's tenure, the Greyhounds have had 14 All-Conference and All-Region players, one named Freshman of the Year, and one voted the top 100 hundred junior college players in the nation. Cook has also been named Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division II Coach of the year twice and District 5 Coach of the Year. Cook has also led his team to Conference Championships twice, a Region VI championship and an NJCAA Div. II National Tournament berth (first since 1948), all firsts for the Greyhound program. At the national tournament, the Greyhounds upset the 4th seeded team and placed 8th in the national tourney.
