The Fort Scott Community College men's basketball team opened region play with a 92-88 home win over Hesston College on Wednesday, November 19. The Greyhounds improve to 5-3 with the win.
The game started out with a fast pace from both teams with both team having leads in first half with Hesston taking a one point lead at halftime. After halftime, the Hounds tighten up on the defense end and starting executed on the offensive end and pushed the lead up to ten points. However, Hesston started to press and created some turnovers and was able to cut the lead to two points with 2 minutes to go in the game. The Hounds were able to hit free throws and close out the game with a 92-88 win.
Freshman guard Tyler Owens connected on 7-of-7 shots from the floor, two of which were threes, and went 2-of-2 from the freethrow line for a team-high 19 points. Sophomores Will Harrington and Tyler Adams each added 15 points to the score, while freshman Anthony Santiago chipped in with 14 points. Will Harrington and Dalton Rose both had a team high 7 rebounds. Harrington added another double-double to his name with a team high 14 assists. The Greyhounds shot 59.3 percent (32-of-54) from the field and 52.6 percent (10-of-19) from the behind the three point line.
"I thought that we shot the three well tonight, we will have the opportunities to make those on a nightly basis however, we cannot live and die by those shots and I thought tonight we had a great mixture of inside and outside game. Also, I thought we were flat in the beginning of the game that we had to change defenses and that helped changed the momentum of the game," stated Head Coach Michael Cook
Fort Scott hosts Penn Valley and Wentworth Military Academy in the Gladbach Classic November 21 and 22 at Arnold Arena.
