Blake Cochran begins his first season as an assistant coach for the Fort Scott Community College Men’s Basketball Program.
Cochran, a Fort Worth, Texas native, comes to the program after coaching at McMurry University and Abilene High School this past year. Out of high school, he signed to play at Northwestern Oklahoma State after his AAU team, Deron Williams Elite, won a national championship at the Las Vegas Fab 48 in the summer of 2011. At NWOSU, the team won the GAC regular season championship his freshman year, he also achieved being on the Vice Presidents Honor Roll List, as well as, being on the Dean’s List. After his sophomore season he transferred to McMurry University, in Abilene, Texas. Cochran received his undergraduate degree in Math-Education from McMurry in the Spring of 17’. He was a member of the War Hawks basketball program from 2014-2017, playing his junior and senior then coaching the season of 2016-2017. As a student and player, he achieved honors such as: Academic All-Conference, Deans List, and Vice President of the Math National Honor Society. As a coach and skills development coach, he helped the student athletes achieve multiple awards such as: Nate Estrada (2nd team All-Conference), LaRandall Scroggins (Honorable Mention All-Conference), Kaan Yilmaz (Freshman of the Year and All-Freshman Team), Darius Watts (All-Freshman Team), and Zacc Carter (All-Freshman Team). During the 2016-2017, he also helped out at as a Volunteer Asssistant for the Abilene High School Men’s Basketball Program. Cochran was involved with practice, weights, and games. The Eagles had a good season playing in a tough 6A district making it the playoffs, getting beat out by North Crowley. He helped the development of juniors guards: Nic Marczynski receiving (District 3-6A 1st team All-District) and David Russell receivinv (District 3-6A 2nd team All- District).
