Lady Greyhounds Split Conference Opener, Breaking 11 Year Streak

On a brutally windy day, the Lady Greyhounds broke an eleven year losing streak on Monday, as they split their KJCCC Conference opener with Labette Community College, winning Game one, 7-3.

"I am extremely proud of how the ladies played," said Head Coach Kristin Janes. "They came out ready to go and stepped on the accelerator from the first pitch. This is a great stride for our program and we will continue moving forward with this momentum throughout the rest of the season."

The Lady Hounds found themselves in a 1-1 tie ballgame going into the top of the fifth when the offensive explosion occurred. The inning began with a Cheyenne Brewer single (Nevada, MO) followed by a Kaylan Morgan (Chelsea, OK) fielder's choice and Hayley Bledsoe (Rogersville, MO) on by error. Aubrey Smith (Yates Center, KS) stepped up the fourth batter of the inning and drove in Morgan for the first run of the fifth.  Lauren Scott (Kansas City, MO) belted a double, scoring Bledsoe, followed by a Michaela Brewer (Nevada, MO) single that scored Smith. Taylor Brecheisen (Rossville, KS) walked loading the bases for Aimee Wimp (Oswego, KS) to hit a two out, two RBI single. Another insurance run came in the seventh on a Michaela Brewer homerun.

Smith earned the win in the circle, pitching five innings, giving up two runs, five hits, and striking out two. Bledsoe threw in relief, covering the remaining two innings, giving up one run, two hits and strikeout out one.

FSCC collected 12 hits in the win, with Brecheisen, Cheyenne Brewer, Michaela Brewer and Scott each putting together a multi-hit game.

In game two, an early lead by Labette couldn't be recover, ending in a 9-2 loss. Wimp, Morgan, and Bledsoe each collected one hit in the nightcap. Pitching duties were split three ways with Smith taking the loss. She pitched an inning and a third, striking out two. Bledsoe and Wimp threw in relief, pitching two and two thirds innings and two innings respectively. Bledsoe struck out three, while Wimp fanned one.

Next up for the Lady Hounds is a twin bill this coming weekend. First up Saturday is Haskell University at 1:00pm & 3:00pm, followed by Missouri Valley's JV at 12:00pm & 2:00pm on Sunday.
