Lady Hounds Take 3 of 4 in Opening Weekend

The Lady Hounds started out the season with a bang, going 3-1 in their opening weekend double headers vs. North Arkansas and Ottawa University JV. FSCC picked up their three wins, 2-0, 8-4 and 6-5. A full 18 team member effort lead FSCC to drive in 17 runs in four games.

In game one on Friday vs. North Arkansas, the Lady Hounds scored its two runs in the fifth inning off a 2 RBI, in the park home run by freshman Kylie Pfeiffer (Olathe, KS).  

Freshman Hayley Bledsoe (Rogersville, MO) earned the first win of the season for the Lady Hounds, throwing six innings and striking out eight.

In game two, the 8-4 win for the Lady Hounds was a back and forth affair and scored in 6 out of its 7 innings. To start the offensive charge, Bledsoe singled and later scored on a Freshman Jackie Kirkpatrick (Dewey, OK) sacrifice fly in the second inning. In the third, Freshman Aimee Wimp (Oswego, KS) led off with a single, and was driven in two at bats later by Sophomore Kaylan Morgan (Chelsea, OK) on an RBI ground out. 

FSCC's big offensive inning came in the fourth when a Kirkpatrick triple, a Freshman Dallas Howard (Galena, MO) walk and Sophomore Jenna Nevius (Spring Hill, KS) triple, all crossed the plate for three Lady Hound runs. Bledsoe, Morgan, Pfeiffer, and Sophomore Michaela Brewer (Nevada, MO) each collected three hits to lead FSCC to the victory.

Aimee Wimp earned the win in the circle for the Lady Hounds, going six innings and striking out two.

On Sunday vs. Ottawa University JV, FSCC dropped game one. Morgan went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead the team in hits. Bledsoe suffered the loss taking her to 1-1 on the season.

In game two, the Lady Hounds bounced back, prevailing 6-5. FSCC lead the attack in the first inning scoring two runs. Wimp started the game with a walk and moved to third on a Kirkpatrick sacrifice bunt. Freshman Allie Rooks (Lathrop, MO) hit an RBI single to score Wimp, and was later driven in by a Taylor Brecheisen's RBI double.

In the bottom of the forth, Freshman Taylor Remington (Nevada, MO) singled to start the inning. Howard then walked and both ladies scored on an RBI triple by Wimp. Scoring again in the sixth, Howard again walked and Brewer was hit by a pitch to set up a 2 run RBI by Wimp.

The duo of Wimp and Sophomore Aubrey Smith (Yates Center, KS) tagged team the pitching duties. Smith earned the win, pitching two innings and striking out two. Wimp started the game for Lady Hounds pitching five innings and striking out four.

"Our opening weekend was a huge team effort," said Head Coach Kristin Janes. "All 18 ladies contributed to our wins and I couldn't be prouder of their selflessness and team first attitudes."

The Lady Hounds are back in action on Friday, February 17th at the Cowtown Classic in Fort Worth, Texas. Game times are slated for 11:00, 1:00 and 5:00.
