Softball Announces 2013 Signees

Head Softball Coach Kristin Schalk has announced the signing of fifteen student-athletes to the FSCC Softball Team. Rebecca Anderson, Samantha Bennett, Paighton Brock, Elizabeth Clark, Tara Dodson, Kalee Ewbank, Randi Glover, Julie Gross, Payton Hays, Shelby Kaberline, Amber Larson, Christa Merriman, Marrisa Raya, Bailey Seetin, and Kelsey Simons have all signed Letters of Intent to be a Lady Greyhound for the 2013-14 season.

Rebecca Anderson is a 5'5 Third baseman and Catcher from Council Grove, KS. She attends Council Grove High School where she is coached by Jim Collins. Anderson is a three time varsity letter winner in softball and collected 1st team All-League honors her junior year. "I really like the small atmosphere of FSCC. It's like where I grew up and everyone is so nice and welcoming." Anderson is the daughter of Kathy and Dennis Anderson and will be majoring in Business and Financing.

Samantha Bennett is a 5'8 Outfielder from Wichita, KS. She attends Wichita Heights High School where she plays for Kip Pulliam. Bennett is a three time varsity letter winner in softball and earned All City Honorable Mention as a junior. She is also a three time academic letter winner for academic success. Bennett plays travel softball for Tim Callison and the HAVOC. When asked why she chose FSCC, Bennett commented "I love the campus, team and coaches." Samantha is the daughter of Katrina and Scott Bennett and will be majoring in Criminal Justice and Forensic Science.

Paighton Brock is a 5'3 Second baseman and Outfielder from Cassville, MO. She attends Cassville High School and played softball for Ben Abramovitz. Throughout her softball career, Brock has collected 2nd team All-Conference & 2nd team All-District awards. Brock also participated in National Honors Society, Basketball and earned an Academic letter her freshman and sophomore years. She plays travel softball for the Pla Mor Fastpitch under the guidance of Roger Brock. "Everyone made me feel like FSCC was a home away from home when I visited," commented Brock when asked why she chose FSCC. Paighton is the Roger and DeDe Brock and will be majoring in Elementary education.

Elizabeth Clark is a 5'2 Outfielder from El Dorado Springs, MO. She attends El Dorado Springs High School, coached by Jarrod Mays, where she was the softball team captain and earned Academic All-State Honors. In addition to softball, Clark participated in DECA, Foreign Language Club, National Honors Society, Art Club, SADD, Varsity Track where she earned two time 4x8 All-District Team Honors, All-Sectional Honors and a State Qualifier, Varsity Cross Country, Homecoming Queen & Miss Merry Christmas Candidate. When asked why Fort Scott was her choice for college Clark commented "Not only did Fort Scott's academics appeal to me, but the ability to continue my softball career was important as well." Elizabeth is the daughter of Jerry Clark and will be majoring in Business and Political Science.

Tara Dodson is a 5'5 Catcher and Third baseman from Gardner, KS. Dodson attends Gardner-Edgerton High School where she plays for Joanne Calvin. She is the Student of Character Award recipient and plays travel softball for the KC Patriots and Brandi Bryan. "FSCC is the perfect fit for me because of the Nursing program, location and softball team. After my visit, I loved it," commented Dodson when asked about coming to FSCC.  Tara is the daughter of Ricky and Connie Dodson and will be majoring in Nursing.

Kalee Ewbank is a 5'4 Short Stop from McCune, KS. She attends Southeast High School where she is coached by Mike Bowman. In addition to softball, Ewbank was involved with National Honors Society, Student Council, Science Club, Senior Class Treasurer, FFA, KAYS, Truman Group and Volleyball at Southeast. She plays travel softball for Mike Bowman and the Adrenaline, collecting Game MVP and tournament MVP at MO-KAN State Tournament in 2012. "Fort Scott is a great choice because it is close to home and has a good nursing program," commented Ewbank. Kalee is the daughter of Gary and Stacy Ewbank and will be majoring in Nursing.

Randi Glover is a 5'2 Pitcher and Outfielder from Riley, KS. She attends Riley County High School where she plays for Al Blubaugh. During her softball career, Glover collected the 2012 Defensive MVP award. In addition to softball, she participated in volleyball and FCA. When asked why she chose FSCC, Glover commented, "I loved my visit and the school is the perfect size for me." Randi is the daughter of Dayle and Jon Ashley and will be majoring in Business.

Julie Gross is a 5'1 Short Stop and Second baseman from Hallsville, MO. She attends Hallsville High School where she played for Chris Pemberton. During her career, Gross earned1st team All-Conference and Defensive Player of the Year awards. She also was a three time 2nd team Academic All-State earner. In addition to softball, Gross participated in FFA, FCA, Student Council, Yearbook, Drama and Basketball. She plays travel softball for the 18U Gold Missouri Revolution and Lori Rader. Julie is the daughter of Steve and Fonda Gross and will be majoring in Elementary Education. 

Payton Hays is a 5'9 Third baseman and Outfielder from Walker, MO. She attends Northeast Vernon County High School where she plays for Rick Wagner. During her career, Hays has earned All-Conference 3rd base and Female Athlete of the year. As an active member at Northeast Vernon, she participated in National Honors society, FFA, Volleyball and Basketball. When asked why FSCC was the right choice for her Hays commented "I chose Fort Scott because it is a small school with a great program." Payton is the daughter of Andy and Tammy Hays and is Undecided on her major.

Shelby Kaberline is a 5'10 Pitcher and First baseman from Gardner, KS. She attends Gardner-Edgerton High School where she is coached by Joanne Calvin. During her career, Kaberline earned All-League Honorable Mention. While at Gardner-Edgerton, she also participated in Basketball while being on the Honor Roll. "The opportunity to play softball in a good environment is why Fort Scott is a great choice for me," commented Kaberline. Shelby is the daughter of David and Jennifer Kaberline and Jenna Kaberline and is majoring in Nursing.

Amber Larson is a 5'4 Pitcher and Outfielder from El Dorado Springs, MO. She attends El Dorado Springs High School where she played for Jerry Clark. In addition to softball, Larson participated in FFA and FCCLA.  When asked why she chose Fort Scott, she commented "It's close to home and I like the campus and everything it has to offer." Amber is the daughter of Lori Warden and is majoring in Elementary Education.                                                     

Christa Merriman is a 5'6 Pitcher and First baseman from Holton, KS. She attends Holton High School where she is coached by John Deitrich. While at Holton, Merriman has also participated in Volleyball and Basketball while earning Scholar Athlete Honors. She plays travel softball for the Ruffnecks coached by Eric Mark. "I chose Fort Scott because the campus and girls on the softball team gave me a homey feeling. A small town and small college with nice people was exactly what I was looking for the most in a college." Christa is the daughter of Misty Hubach and Patrick Merriman and will be majoring in Nursing.

Marrisa Raya is a 5'3 Third baseman and Short Stop from McLouth, KS. Raya attends McLouth High School where she is coached by Ballard Patterson.  In addition to softball, Raya participated in Volleyball. She plays travel softball for the Ruffnecks and Eric Mark. When asked what made her pick FSCC Raya commented, "It seemed like the perfect fit!" Marrisa is the daughter of Janice and Joseph Raya and will be majoring in Nursing.

Bailey Seetin is a 5'11 First baseman and Catcher from Perry, KS. Seetin attends Topeka Seaman High School where she is coached by Jay Monhollan. In addition to softball, Seetin participated in Basketball Tennis and the Topeka Youth Wind Ensemble. She plays travel softball for Eric Mark and the Ruffnecks. "FSCC has the academic program I wanted," commented Seetin when asked what drew her to FSCC. Bailey is the daughter of Richard and Dee Seetin and will be majoring in Instrumental Music Education.

Kelsey Simons is a 5'7 Pitcher and First baseman from Fort Scott, KS. Simons attends Fort Scott High School where she collected the 2012 MVP award. In addition to softball, she participated in Volleyball and Basketball. Simons plays travel softball for Johnnie Hill and the Explosion Two. "FSCC fits my academic and softball needs the best." Kelsey is the daughter of Larry and Kimberly Simons and is Undecided on her major. 

"We have a great group of young ladies joining the Lady Hounds next year. They all possess many individual talents and I'm really looking forwarding to bringing them all together next year," said Coach Schalk.
