Fort Scott Community College is proud to announce Kristin Schalk as the Greyhounds' new head softball coach. Coach Schalk comes to Fort Scott after spending the 2011 and 2012 seasons as the assistant coach at Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas.
"I am very excited about the hiring of Coach Schalk," stated J.D. Ettore, Athletic Director at FSCC. "It was evident to everyone on the hiring committee that her skill set as a coach, combined with her leadership qualities, was a great match for Greyhound Athletics and FSCC."
While at Ottawa Coach Schalk specialized in outfield and hitting instruction, as well as left handed slapping, base coaching, strength and conditioning, recruiting, and special event planning. During that time Coach Schalk helped the Lady Braves reach a 2011 regular season KCAC championship as well as producing seventeen all conference performers.

To be part of a college where academics, community service and athletics are of such high importance is a great opportunity. I am very excited to begin the year at the helm of the Lady Greyhound Softball program."
Prior to Ottawa University, Coach Schalk began her coaching career as the assistant coach for the Central Ohio Lady Rebels 16U club softball team and the Mercyhurst Preparatory High School softball team. As an assistant coach, her primary focus was outfield, middle infield and hitting instruction. Coach Schalk also served as an assistant coach for Gannon University's Men's Wrestling Team in 2009, producing a conference champion, six national qualifiers and five All-Americans.
Coach Schalk played her four year collegiate softball career at NCAA Division II Gannon University in Erie, PA. During her career as a Golden Knight, she served as an outfielder and designated player. She led the team in grand slams her sophomore year and batted a career high .390 On Base Percentage during her senior season while also leading the team in doubles. The Golden Knights earned a GLIAC Championship as well as a regional qualification during her tenure. Coach Schalk earned her Bachelor's Degree in Sports and Exercise Science with a minor in coaching in 2010.
In 2012, Coach Schalk graduated from Canisius College in Buffalo, New York with a Master's degree in Sports Administration. She is a native of Pataskala, Ohio and is the daughter of Pat and Kathy Schalk and sister of Patrick.
