After winning their first playoff game in 44 years and breaking a 22 game losing streak in the playoffs, the Greyhounds traveled to Salina, KS to take on the top seed and #7 ranked Lions of Brown Mackie College.
The Greyhounds came out shooting well and took a four point lead half way thru the first half, but Brown Mackie stormed back to take a two point lead at half time with the score being 36-34. The start of the second half, the Greyhounds took a three point lead and forced Brown Mackie to take a timeout to regroup.
After the timeout, Brown Mackie went on a 16-3 run and never trailed again. They pushed the lead to thirteen points. The Greyhounds fought back, but could not get closer than six point with one minute left in the game.
Brown Mackie made free throws down the stretch and closed the game out, winning by ten points and bringing the Greyhounds season to an end.
The Greyhounds shot 52% from the field and 53% from the three point line, while shooting only 50% from the free throw line. The Greyhounds were led in scoring by James Fleming and Austin Danner scoring 18 and 17 points respectively. Prince Samuels and CJ Hall scored 11 points, Chekeil Wright scored 10 points and Ray Ray Chase score 8 points. Chekeil Wright and Austin Danner dished out 9 and 7 assists respectively and Prince Samuels pulled down 7 rebounds.
"Tonight the players played their hearts out and all of them left everything that they had out on the floor. I am proud of the effort that they gave for forty minutes, we just had some moments where we didn't score and Brown Mackie did and that was the difference in the game. Our team shot well and played outstanding defense, we just fell short tonight. None of these players have anything to hang their head down about, we did some great things this year and we turned the corner on continuing to build a great program," Fort Scott head coach Michael Cook said.
