Men Get Win On Sophomore Night

The Greyhounds played a game against Johnson County in a pivotal Region VI, Division II match-up, the game was also the last regular season home game for six sophomores.

The Greyhounds came into the game with a fourth place seeding for the playoffs and Johnson County came into the game with a third place seeding for playoffs.  The top four teams will play the first round of playoffs at home against the lower place seeds. 

The Greyhounds jumped out to a lead quick into the game with a 14-3 run and a 9-0 run and went into the half with the score 38-29.

In the first half, three sophomores got the Greyhounds into a nice groove by making two 3 point shots, with Austin Danner making two three point shots and James Fleming and Gary Floyd making one a piece. 

They Greyhounds came into the game without their starting point guard Kevin House, but sophomore back-up Chekiel Wright stepped into the starting lineup and the Greyhounds did not skip as the Greyhounds dished out seventeen assists on the night. 

In the second half, the Greyhounds pushed the lead out to as many as fifteen points with nine minutes to go in the game, however the Greyhounds did not score again and this allowed Johnson County to climb back into the ballgame and pull within three points with 1:29 to go in the game.

After a timeout, the Greyhounds applied great defense and held Johnson County to just two field goals the rest of the game, which allowed the Greyhounds to pull out the win and stay at the fourth place spot for playoff seeding.

"The thing that I like about tonight is that we played all six sophomores tonight and all six played significant minutes to help us get the win," Fort Scott's head coach Michael Cook said.

The Greyhounds had three players score in double figures, Austin Danner led the Greyhounds with eighteen and James Fleming had fifteen points and Chekeil Wright chipped in eleven points.  Ray Ray Chase scored nine points and grabbed twelve rebounds and Gary Floyd scored seven points while grabbing nine rebounds.
