The Greyhounds went on the road for a rematch against Cowley County in Arkansas City, KS whom they beat earlier in the year at Fort Scott, KS. Fort Scott was coming into the game winning two of the last four games in conference.
"I felt great about coming into this game against Cowley County, we had won two of the last four games and the games that we lost, I feel that we played well enough to win but just didn't close the games out," Fort Scott head coach Michael Cook said.
In the first half, the Greyhound came out shooting the ball well and pushed out quickly to a nine point lead. The Tigers of Cowley jumped into their pressed defense and caused three straight turnovers and converted those turnovers into points and gained momentum and went into halftime with a three point lead with the score 26-29.
The second saw the Greyhounds go into a slump and only score one point in the first five minutes of the second half and saw Cowley push the lead to as many as nineteen points with seven minutes left in the game.
After a timeout, the Greyhounds put on a press defense and caused some turnovers and made the game a more up tempo game. Austin Danner and James Fleming made some timely three point shots and Tyler Adams along with Chekeil Wright converted some baskets after some key defensive stops, which allowed the Greyhounds to get within 3 points, with the score 64-61 with forty seconds left in the game.
The Greyhounds continued to press and eventually had to start fouling to get the ball back and Cowley converted their foul shots and won the game 69-63.
The Greyhounds had only two players score in double figures, Austin Danner scored 26 points and James Fleming scored 12 points, Ray Ray Chase scored 7 points and pulled down 14 rebounds.
"The first five minutes put us in a whole and allowed Cowley to get a big lead and unfortunately it was a hole that took a toll on us at the end of the game. I do like that fact that we never quit and actually we had a chance to take the lead towards the end of the game," Fort Scott head coach Michael Cook said.
