The Greyhounds Men's basketball team was looking to avenge a loss earlier in the year to the Labette Community College Cardinals, in a tough conference matchup at Arnold Arena. The Cardinals came into the matchup with a 3rd place standing in conference play and the Greyhounds were coming off a huge Regional win against Hesston College.
Both teams displayed a great example of what it takes to compete in the Jayhawk Conference and that is by playing solid defense and competing for forty minutes.
Usually the Hound's fast break offense is on display but on this night the Hounds showed they have stingy defense to match their offense. Early in this contest it became clear that this was going to be a physical and defensive game. The team stepped up and got a few key defensive stops in the final minutes of the game to help seal the victory.
"Tonight we told the team that this will be a defensive, grind it out game until the horn goes off, we got away from our defensive assignments in the first half but the players adjusted and we go back to the usual tough defense that we usually play," said Head Coach Michael Cook.
Ray Ray Chase was 3 for 4 from the free throw line in the second half, along with James Fleming who went 7 for 8 from the Free Throw line, helped propel the Hounds to their 12th win of the season. James Fleming finished with a team high 20 points and Prince Samuels added 12 points.
"I thought that our bench was outstanding tonight. Chekeil Wright, Tyler Adams, Gary Floyd, Wes Brantley and Prince Samuels came in and gave our team a big lift during the game and played big parts in helping us get the victory tonight," said Head Coach Michael Cook.
