Men's Basketball Team was looking to get back on a winning track against Independence Community College who posted a record of 10-10. Fort Scott was coming off a tough home loss against Brown Mackie College.
The contest consisted of several lead changes, which saw the Greyhounds down late in the second half. With the Greyhounds exhibiting tough defense and teamwork, they were able battle back and send the game into overtime.
In the first overtime, both teams displayed a determination not to lose. It was an even battle that displayed several clutch shots by Austin Danner. Independence was led by the Jayhawk Conference leading scorer TraVaughn White, who found ways to score by driving to the basket and getting fouled.
In the second overtime, the Hounds were down early by 5 points, but through execution of their offense, they were able to tie the game and pull a head for the remainder of the game.
The Greyhounds had four player score double figures with Austin Danner leading the way with 28 points, Prince Samuels scored 18 points, James Fleming scored 19 points and Ray Ray Chase had 10 points with 11 rebounds. The Greyhounds showed the potential that they possess by executing their offense and playing team basketball. If they continue to play solid defense and play as a team the sky will be the limit for this Greyhound Team.
"All year long our staff has preached that we will never quit and we will always fight until the final buzzer goes off. Tonight was another example of how these guys have bought into that thought process. With the help of the crowd tonight, we were able to pull out the victory," said Fort Scott Head coach Michael Cook.
