The Greyhounds traveled to Salina, KS for a Region 6 seeding match up with an athletic Brown Mackie College team who came into the ball game ranked #14 in the nation and currently a game behind the Greyhounds in the region seeding.
The Greyhounds started out strong, using their transition game to push ahead by five points with 9:36 left in the first half. Brown Mackie called a timeout and pressed the Greyhounds and forced four turnovers, giving them a 8-0 run and a three point lead. The Greyhounds didn't score for 4 minutes allowing the Lions of Brown Mackie to push the lead to 15 at halftime with the score 43-28
"I thought that we rushed things when they pressed us and didn't stay composed at all," Fort Scott head coach Michael Cook said. " We got into a lot of one on one play instead of moving the ball like we usually do, which caused their defense to not have to move at all and then not scoring for four minutes at all was obviously a big blow to end the first half."
The second half the Greyhounds played better and cut the lead to ten with a chance to cut the lead to eight, when Ray Ray Chase found CJ Hall on a backdoor cut, but Hall missed the shot and Brown Mackie went down and made a three point shot pushing the lead to thirteen and the Greyhounds did not get closer after that, losing by a score of 72-88.
Leading the way for the Greyhounds, was Sophomore Austin Danner with 17 , Kevin House with 15, and James Fleming added 11 also Ray Ray Chase and Devin McBride added 7 points each while grabbing 7 and 8 rebounds respectively.
"Again turnovers hurt us tonight and we couldn't recover from the hole we put ourselves in the first half. Some of the positives tonight though were that we are getting more production from more players off the bench. Devin McBride came and gave us energy and rebounded well, our forwards are starting to play more aggressive and physical which is needed for conference play in the second semester," Fort Scott head coach Michael Cook said.
