Greyhounds Get Back on Winning Track

After losing their last two games, the Greyhounds went on the road to face Wentworth Military Academy, a team whom the Greyhounds had beaten earlier in the month at Arnold Arena.  From the beginning of the game the Greyhounds played with energy and played great team defense, which allowed the Greyhounds to lead by as many as thirteen points in the first half.

However, the Dragons of Wentworth finished out the first half strong and closed the gap to seven at the break with the score 24-31.  Both teams did not shoot particularly well in the first half with the Greyhounds shooting only 37% from the field and the Dragons shooting only 31 % from the field in the first half.

In the second half, the Greyhounds starting shooting the ball well and improve on their transition offense and increased the lead to as many as fifteen points.  However, the Greyhounds had untimely turnovers and the Dragons capitalized on those turnovers cutting the lead to six points with 2 minutes left in the ball game.

The Greyhounds made crucial free throws at the end of the game to ensure the victory and to push their overall record to 6 wins and 4 losses on the year.

Leading the Greyhounds in scoring on the night was Prince Samuels with 17 points and 7 rebounds, Austin Danner chipped in 14 points, James Fleming added 13 points, Kevin House had 9 points, collected 8 rebounds and dished out 7 assists and Ray Ray Chase grabbed 13 rebounds while scoring 6 points.  The Greyhounds out rebounded the Dragons 52-39.

"This win was a total team effort.  We were coming off of two straight losses where I didn't feel that we played our best basketball.  This was a chance for us to find out how we would handle adversity and if we could bounce back and get back to Greyhound basketball.  I thought our rebounding was better tonight and allowed our transition game to get going early in the game.  Anytime our rebounding is good, it allows our team to get out and run and then we are playing Greyhound basketball," Fort Scott Head Coach Michael Cook said.
