Greyhounds Win Fifth Game In a Row

The Greyhounds faced the #8 ranked Highland Scotties at Arnold Arena in a contest that would count towards conference standings and Division seeding.

The Greyhounds got out of the gate quick by leading 23-13 with 10 minutes left in the first half, but Highland went on a 13-0 run and took a two point lead at half with the score 33-31.

The start of the second half was good for the Greyhounds as they made 7 of their first 10 shots, pushing the score to 48-41 with 14:36 left in the game.  Both teams for hard for the next twelve minutes, with neither team putting the game away, Highland took a four point lead with 3 minutes left in the game making the score 52-48.

The Greyhounds then responded, with James Fleming and Kevin House scoring key baskets to put the Greyhounds ahead for good, and giving the Greyhounds their fifth straight win.  Also, this win makes the second time this year that the Greyhounds have beaten a nationally ranked team; two weeks ago the Greyhounds beat the #11 ranked Penn Valley.

The Greyhounds shot 43% from the field and 31% from the three point line, while shooting only 69% from the free throw line.  The Greyhounds had four players score in double figures with James Fleming scoring 24 points, making 7 of 7 from the free throw line, Gary Floyd scored 12, Kevin House scored 11 points, while dishing out 7 assists, Ray Ray Chase almost recorded a triple double scoring 13 points, grabbing 14 rebounds and blocking 9 shots.

"This was a huge game for us for several reasons, playing the #8 team in the nation, divisional seeding and of course conference standings, plus playing a game before the guys go home for Thanksgiving, that being said I thought that the guys responded great and played well together, which allowed us to get a great start to both the first and second half.  I liked our effort and intensity tonight and I was very pleased with our execution of the game plan even when the game was close," Fort Scott head coach Michael Cook said.
