The Greyhounds went on the road for their first Region VI Division II basketball game of the year against Hesston College.  Hesston came into the contest with a record of 4-2 and was coming in the contest with confidence after coming off two solid wins the weekend before at a tournament in Beatrice, Nebraska.

"I am excited for our guys to get this win; it was a close game the entire night.  Hesston is a quality team and disciplined also, so for us to come in and get a road win in our first Region game is exciting," Fort Scott Head Coach Michael Cook said.

In the first half, the Greyhounds again relied on their man to man pressure defense which allowed them to establish their transition game.  The Greyhounds started the game with a 19-11 lead, after some fouling and Hesston hitting some key shots.  Hesston tied the game with about 10 minutes left in the first half.

The Greyhounds called a timeout to re-group.  After the timeout, the Greyhounds turned up the defensive intensity and scored some baskets in transition; scoring on 15 of 17 shots, pushing the lead to 36-23 with six minutes left in the first half.  The Greyhounds finished the first half strong, having a nine point lead with the score 43-34.

Hesston came out strong at the beginning of the second half, causing 4 turnovers and capitalizing on those turnovers by scoring six of the first eight points.  The Greyhounds called another timeout to re-group and went on an eleven to five run, making the score 56-46.  With a ten point lead, the Greyhounds didn't look back and finished strong and won the game 87-77

The Greyhounds had three players scored in double figures.  Leading in scoring for the Greyhounds was Sophomore Austin Danner with 28 points coming off the bench, Gary Floyd chipped in with 14 points, and Prince Samuels added 12 points.  Ray Ray Chase again played strong with 7 points, 12 rebounds and 6 blocks.

"This was a total team effort tonight.  Everyone will see the box score and see that Austin Danner scored 28 points, but several guys contributed tonight.  I thought we got great minutes from our bench; guys like Chekeil, Jason Stoneking, Tyler Adams, and CJ Hall gave us valuable minutes, which we will need as the season goes on.  It is always good to get a Region win on the road.  This will help us for our playoff seeding and I am very excited for our guys," Fort Scott Head Coach Michael Cook said.
