Hounds Win Season Series Versus Labette

The Fort Scott Community College baseball team won three of four games this past weekend versus Labette County Community College.

Game one saw the Cardinals grab an early lead by scoring two runs in the first inning off Greyhound starter, Aaron Mason.  The score remained 2-0 until the sixth inning when the Greyhounds scored five runs. Freshman, Josh Griffith, had the big hit scoring two runs on his two out single that pushed the scored to 3-1.  The Greyhounds pushed across two more runs in the inning to make the score 5-2 heading into the seventh inning.  Mason got two quick outs before allowing two runners to reach base.  Sophomore, Nick Kevlin, came in the game to record the final out and earn his sixth save of the season in as many chances.

Game two was another close game.  The score was tied 1-1 after the first inning and stayed that way heading into the fifth inning when the Greyhound hitters knocked in two runs.  Freshmen, Lance Barkley and Ka'ai Tom both doubled in the inning and collected rbi's. Greyhound starting pitcher, sophomore Ryan Ahrens, kept the Cardinal bats at bay allowing only two hits and striking out five.  Kevlin came in to throw the final two innings to collect his seventh save of the year.

Game three continued the streak of close games in the series.  FSCC scored early plating one run in the second and another run in the third inning bringing the score to 2-0. The Greyhounds carried that lead into the seventh inning.  The Cardinals plated three runs on four hits taking a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh.  The Greyhounds rallied by placing runners on second and third with two outs, but that's where the rally stopped as the Cardinals collected the third out bringing the final score to 3-2.

Game four saw the Greyhounds come out early and plating five runs in the bottom half of the second inning.  That would be all the offense the Greyhounds would get, but it would be more than enough for starting pitcher, Josh Griffith.  The freshman threw a complete game allowing three hits and striking out five. Offensively, the Greyhounds were lead by freshman, Sam Gilbert, who collected two hits, two stolen bases, scored one run and had one rbi.

The Greyhounds are currently in third place in the Jayhawk East with a conference record of 18-10 (29-12 overall) trailing Coffeyville Community College by one game for second place.  FSCC returns to action Wednesday at Crowder College who is ranked #1 in the nation.  The game is a single nine inning game and will begin at 2:00pm.  Conference action for the Greyhounds resumes this weekend as they host Highland Community College at 1:00pm on both Saturday and Sunday at Lions Field.e
