Head Baseball Coach John Hill has announced the signing of 14 student/athletes for the 2013 class.
"We are very excited about next year's incoming class. Each player has shown the ability to play at a high level and has accepted the challenge of being a Fort Scott Greyhound. They understand the expectations in the classroom, in the community, and on the field. Each player we have signed has the ability to make an impact on our team. We are very excited to see this group continue the tradition of academic achievement, athletic excellence, and community service," said Coach Hill.
Jake Harvey – Catcher – 6'2" 210 – Blue Valley North High School – Overland Park, KS
"Jake is a big athletic catcher who has a high ceiling. We identified him early and feel fortunate to be able to work with him and see how good he can be. He has always been a football-baseball guy and we are excited to get to work with him as he concentrates on just baseball."
Mike Sielinski – Catcher – 6'4" 210 – Swan Valley High School – Saginaw, Michigan
"Mike is a late bloomer as he has grown 3 inches and put on 30 pounds since the summer. He was recommended by Michigan State and once he visited and we got to see him in person, we were very impressed. His work ethic is impressive and he will be very good behind the plate for us."
Austin O'Brien – 1B – 6'3" 190 – Owasso High School – Owasso, OK
"Austin comes from a baseball family as his uncle, Charlie Obrien played 15 years in Major League Baseball and his father holds the homerun record for career and single season at Oral Roberts University. We feel Austin is one of the best hitters in the Tulsa area and we are very excited to see him in a Greyhound uniform."
Kolby Greenslade – SS – 6'1" 175 – Norwalk High School – Norwalk, IA
"Kolby comes from Iowa which is a limited baseball state as far as games played as their only season is in the summer. However, Kolby is a 3 sport standout at his high school and plays baseball all fall during his football season on the weekends. He's a very athletic kid who we feel will develop at a rapid rate once he solely plays baseball."
Kaden Shaffer – 3B/2B – 6'0" 195 – Ottawa High School – Ottawa, KS
"Kaden is another football-baseball kid in high school who we feel will take off once he plays only baseball. He is a physical player who is a plus runner for his size. His athleticism will afford him opportunities at multiple positions."
Max Bergman – 3B/OF/RHP – 6'2" 190 – Oak Park High School – Kansas City, MO
"Max is a versatile-athletic player who will play multiple positions for us. He has a unique set of skills as he is a left handed hitter as well as a sidearm pitcher. He runs very well and will be essential to our team due to his abilities and versatility."
Mike Baxter – OF – 6'0" 175 – Bishop Miege High School – Kansas City, KS
"Mike is a hardnosed, blue collar, grind it out type of player. His personality fits our program to a "T". His older brother, Cullen, played here at FSCC in my first year as a head coach and he has an advanced feel and understanding of our program. We are very excited Mike has chosen to be a Greyhound."
Peyton Laing – RHP/OF – 5'11" 200 – Owasso High School – Owasso, OK
"Peyton comes from the premier high school program in the state of Oklahoma. He has battled for every second of playing time and has learned how to compete earlier than most high school athletes. We are very excited to see where his mature approach and work ethic will take him."
Jake Boling – RHP/OF – 6'6" 210 – Central High School - Saint Joseph, MO
"Jake is a big, hard throwing pitcher who runs very well for his size and he uses his long body to create great bat speed. He has a huge upside and hasn't realized his potential. He will battle for playing time as a pitcher and hitter."
Brendan Janes – RHP – 6'2" 210 – Blue Valley High School – Stillwell, KS
"Brendan is a kid we have watched since he got to high school and he has continued to develop. He has a unique, low ¾'s arm slot and is a very smart pitcher with good stuff. His older, Ian, played here my first year and has coached here the last 3 years. Needless to say, Brendan has a great idea of the expectations of our program, but he is talented enough to go to lots of schools. We are excited he has chosen to be a Greyhound."
Matt Peterson – RHP – 5'11" 175 – Shawnee Mission Northwest High School – Kansas City, KS
"Matt has a unique arm slot as a submarine pitcher. This creates a different look that is difficult to adjust to for opposing hitters. His summer coach and former player of mine, Bryan Peterson, was a submarine closer at Kansas State and was drafted as a closer. Needless to say, Matt is working with one of the best. We are excited to get Matt on campus and continue his development."
Danny Garrett – LHP – 6'0" 190 – Rockwall High School – Dallas, TX
"Danny is another two sport athlete who was the starting quarterback on the football team. He devoted a lot of time away from baseball on football and once he concentrates on baseball, we feel he will be a very good pitcher."
Nathan Westfahl – LHP – 6'3" 190 – Olathe Northwest High School – Olathe, KS
"We identified Nathan in the fall of his junior year and were very high on him. He was heavily recruited and we feel very fortunate to have a chance to help him reach his goals. We have high hopes for Nathan."
Bobby Pierce – LHP – 6'3" 180 – Southmoore High School – Oklahoma City, OK
"Bobby has a very loose arm with plus offspeed. He was recommended by former pitching coach, Eric Peterson. Once we got to see Bobby in person, we were very impressed. He will compete for innings immediately next year."
