'Hounds Sweep #6 Ranked Cowley

The Fort Scott Community College baseball team completed a double header sweep of Cowley College on Wednesday, April 3rd at Lions Field in Fort Scott, KS. Cowley came into the game ranked #6 in the nation and undefeated in conference play with a perfect 18-0 record.

The Greyhounds didn't waste any time with the bat as sophomore, Reyn Sugai, hit his first homerun of the season in the bottom of the first inning bringing home freshman, Alex Copeland, who had doubled earlier in the inning. Sugai's homerun made the score 2-1 and the Greyhounds didn't look back. The Greyhounds scored two or more runs in the second through fifth innings finishing the game with a 13-4 victory. Leading the offense was freshman, Lance Barkley, who collected four hits while scoring three runs and collecting two RBI's. Freshman, Ka'ai Tom, also homered for the sixth time on the season. On the mound, freshman, John Lynch, collected his third win of the season allowing four runs in five innings. Sophomore, Nick Kevlin, threw the last two innings to finish the game.

Game two brought much of the same on the offensive side with the Greyhounds scoring three runs in the bottom of the first innng on freshman, Ka'ai Tom's seventh homerun of the season which plated freshmen Copeland and Barkley to make the score 3-0. FSCC tacked on one run in the second, third, and fourth innings to bring the score to 6-0. On the mound, sophomore Ryan Ahrens, threw five innings of no hit baseball and turned the game over to freshman, Aaron Mason. After a quick sixth inning, Cowley scattered five hits in the top of the seventh and plated three runs. Mason ended the threat by striking the final Cowley batter to complete the game with a 6-3 score in favor of the Greyhounds.

Fort Scott continues conference action this weekend with 1:00pm double headers on both Saturday and Sunday at Independece Community College.

The Greyhounds are 20-11 overall and 11-9 in conference play.
