The Fort Scott Community College baseball team bounced back from the first day of games after getting swept in a double header on Tuesday by the scores of 4-1 & 4-1. Wednesday brought out a much better ending as the Greyhounds scored 18 runs on the day to win both games of the doubleheader by the scores of 9-3 & 9-8. This brings the Greyhounds to a 9-4 overall record and 2-2 conference record.
In games one and two, Neosho County's starting pitchers, Chance Sinclair and Jon Furlong, held the Greyhounds to two runs on the day. The lone offensive bright spot for the Greyhounds was Lance Barkley as he hit three doubles on the day.
Day two saw the Greyhound bats come alive as they pounded out 18 hits in route to scoring 18 runs. The Greyhounds scored in five of the game's seven innings to win in the first game. Offensively, the Greyhounds stole six bases and had three RBI's from first basemen Joe Hermsen. Reliever Nick Kevlin picked up the win surrendering only one run in 5.1 innings. Game two brought a late offensive outburst as the Greyhounds scored five runs in the top of the fifth inning with two outs on 6 straight hits to tie the score at 6-6. The Greyhounds weren't done scoring as freshman, Ka'ai Tom, hit a towering three run homerun in the top of sixth inning to make the score 9-6. Neosho countered with two runs with two outs in the bottom of the sixth and held Fort Scott scoreless in the top of the seventh. The Greyhound reliever, Lance Barkley, who came in from center field to pitch the final three innings, held on for the win in the bottom of the seventh, stranding a Neosho baserunner who had reached on an error.
Fort Scott continues play this weekend in conference action against Kansas City Kansas Community College with a double header starting at 1:00pm on Saturday in Kansas City, KS.
