The Greyhound Baseball team won the first and third games of a three game series versus Southeast Nebraska Community College Storm over the weekend. Due to recent rain, the games were played in Pittsburg, KS on the city's turf field, Jaycee Ballpark. The Greyhounds opened the series with a 3-2 win. Freshman, Josh Griffith, picked up the win in his collegiate debut throwing 4 2/3 innings, striking out 6. Sophomore transfer, Nick Kevlin, threw the last 2 1/3 innings and picked up the save while not surrendering a hit and striking out 3. The second game was suspended in the third inning due to heavy rain fall with the Greyhounds up 1-0, but runners were on 1st and 2nd base and no one out.
Play resumed Sunday and saw the Storm jump out immediately scoring seven runs in the top of the third inning. The rest of the game saw much of the same as the final score was in favor of the Storm 15-5. Fort Scott grinded out a 13-6 win in the third game of the series exploding for 9 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning after trailing the entire game. Freshmen, John Lynch, picked up the win in relief throwing the final 3 1/3 innings allowing only 1 unearned run. Offensively, freshman Ka'ai Tom, led the way with 4 hits including 2 triples in the 6th inning.
The Greyhounds will resume play on the road Wednesday as they travel to Ottawa University to play a DH at 2:00pm before returning home to play a four game series versus North Central Missouri Community College this weekend.
